From a blacksmith’s workshop to Medevac
Toivo Vuorenoja working as as apprentice at his uncle’s forge in 1918
Company history begins in year 1918, from a small blacksmith’s forge where Toivo Vuorenoja started his career as a blacksmith’s apprentice. Later, Toivo became known as a highly skilled and productive person, leaving his imprint on many kinds of tools and inventions. At one point Toivo also started making stretchers for the local Red Cross division and because his products soon reached such high demand, he decided to start a company and concentrate its focus to medical equipment.
In 1970’s, Toivo was retired and Toivo’s two sons Timo and Eero continued with the family business. In 1998 the company was divided into two separate, yet closely linked companies focusing on different products: Eero concentrated on making stretchers and Timo started the development of stretcher loading systems, mainly for the military markets.
Toivo’s grandson Ari-Matti has been running the business with the same passion, guiding it through the 2010’s. Frestems is now the leading company for military stretcher loading systems in Europe.
